US Ukrainian Activists in the media – 2015 to 2021

On July 30, 2015, the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA hosted a charity concert of Ukrainian pianist Pavlo Gintov co-sponsored by the volunteer group “US Ukrainian Activists”.

All proceeds will go to Ukraine as a humanitarian aid to support the defenders of our country from Russian aggression – the National Guard detachments.

Hundreds of people with Ukrainian flags, flowers and candles gathered in central Washington on Sunday, February 18, to honor the memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, as well as thousands of Ukrainians who died in the fight against Russian aggression. […]

The initiators of the memorial ceremony in Washington, in addition to the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States and United Help Ukraine, were also the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, Razom for Ukraine, U.S. Ukrainian Activists, and representatives of the Ukrainian community in the United States.

On Saturday, October 27th, United Help Ukraine, US Ukrainian Activists, the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA, and Ukrainian Diaspora welcomed the team of Ukrainian heroes who came to Washington, DC to run in the 43rd Marine Corps Marathon.

On Sunday, October 28th, the team successfully completed 10K and 42K distances. Many members of Ukrainian diaspora came to support the heroes. We are very proud of the Ukrainian team who showed not only great results but also exemplary sportsmanship and camaraderie. Glory to Ukraine!

In the wake of Putin’s recent aggressive action against the Ukrainian navy in the Sea of Azov, there has been an outpouring of support and calls to action from Ukraine’s friends and allies. EANC and the Estonian government were among the first to speak out.

EANC responded the day after the news broke by drafting and sending letters to the editor to seventeen U.S. newspapers expressing our condemnation of the actions and calling on the U.S. government to respond. Our Washington, DC Director, Karin Shuey also attended a protest hosted by the organizations U.S. Ukrainian Activists and United Help Ukraine in front of the Russian embassy that evening.

We continue to coordinate with our Ukrainian colleagues to make their message heard on Capitol Hill and in the Administration.

On Sunday, February 17th, 2019 – the Ukrainian-American Community of the greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area gathered in the nation’s capital for the prayerful solemn observance of the 5thanniversary of the tragic loss of life – the HEVANLY HUNDRED – the young men and women of Kyiv’s Maydan that were shot to death in February of 2014.

His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, accompanied by Very Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Steliak (pastor of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring, MD), Very Rev. Fr. Claudio Lutai and Subdeacons Mykola Zomchak, Ivan Vehryn, Yaroslav Bilohan – seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary (South Bound Brook, NJ) participated in the formal program and led the Memorial Panakhyda, honoring the memory of the lost lives of the Maydan in Kyiv. The memorial event was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine and in the US and the United Help Ukraine, US Ukrainian Activists, Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), by the Ukrainian community and by the representatives of the International Committee for Crimea.

WASHINGTON – A large gathering of more than 100 people actively concerned about Ukrainian affairs came together at the Holodomor Memorial in Washington on a very cold Sunday afternoon, February 17, to honor the Heavenly Hundred who gave their lives five years ago in Kyiv in their pursuit of achieving a truly independent Ukraine.

The commemorative event began with the crowd singing the song “Plyve Kacha” that was sung by the large gathering on Kyiv’s Maidan five years ago, expressing its farewell to the fallen heroes. In the hour that followed, the meaning and importance of what the Heavenly Hundred helped to achieve and Ukraine’s continuing fight for its independence in the post-Soviet era was discussed by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly, Inci Bowman of the International Committee for Crimea, Michael Sawkiw Jr. of the Ukrainian National Information Service, Ilona Doerfler of U.S.-Ukrainian Activists and George Sajewych of United Help Ukraine, who participated in the 2014 Kyiv Maidan protests and was seriously injured. In the photograph above, Mr. Sajewych is seen sharing his experience and thoughts about the meaning and importance of those events.

The hourlong program, coordinated by Rodion Iwanczuk of United Help Ukraine, was concluded with a memorial service headed by Ukrainian Orthodox Bishop Daniel Zelinsky, joined by priests from Washington-area Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic churches, and the singing of the Ukrainian and Ukrainian national anthems. – Yaro Bihun
