Вічна та Світла Пам’ять
Eternal and bright memory to the Ukrainian bandurist Ostap Yuriyovych Kindrachuk (November 13, 1937 – December 18, 2024).
In his repertoire, Mr. Kindrachuk included folk dumy, historical and folk songs, as well as works reflecting contemporary life. He arranged his songs in chronological order, creating a unique “history of Ukraine in songs” — from Kyivan Rus to modern times. In Ukraine, he performed in Kyiv, Yalta, Odesa, Lviv, and many other cities.
Bandurist Ostap Kindrachuk recorded two albums at a studio in Poland, some songs from which were included in the collection “Ostap Kindrachuk. The Cossack-Bandurist.”
He appeared in the television film “Kobzar Paths” (1988, Ukrtelefilm) directed by Oleh Biyma and in the series “Roksolana” (1996, Ukrtelefilm).
Mr. Kindrachuk collected books about the Cossacks and the history of Ukraine and was a researcher of kobzar traditions in Ukraine, Crimea, and the Kuban region.
Thanks to his participation, the Lesya Ukrainka Museum in Yalta was established. Bandurist Kindrachuk contributed to expanding the museum’s collections with documents and materials from his personal archive. He also served as a teacher at the Sunday School of Ukrainian Studies at the Lesya Ukrainka Museum in Yalta until the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation.
Ostap Kindrachuk contributed to the construction of a monument and the installation of a memorial plaque on the house in Yalta where Lesya Ukrainka lived in 1897.
