USUA Veterans Team takes part in the MCM to Honor Ukrainian and American War Heroes

💛💙USUA Veterans Team Made Their Debut in the MCM to Honor Ukrainian and American War Heroes!

We are thrilled to announce that in 2024, the USUA Veterans Team of our non-profit organization, US Ukrainian Activists (USUA), was founded and made its debut in the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in Washington, D.C., to honor Ukrainian and American War Heroes!

The team’s mission is to raise awareness about Ukraine’s ongoing fight for Freedom and Independence, honoring the Ukrainian Heroes of russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine, as well as the American Heroes who sacrificed their Lives defending Democracy and Peace Worldwide.

At the 49th MCM, the USUA Veterans Team was represented by three Ukrainian veterans—Volodymyr Karapchuk (“Shved”), Oleh (“Turyst”), and Serhii R.—alongside four volunteer members of US Ukrainian Activists: Nadiya Shaporynska (the president of USUA), Alan Cashell, Vlad Beresovsky, and Dmytro R.

You can read more about Ukrainian veterans Karapchuk Volodymyr and Oleh from the USUA Veterans Team here:

Karapchuk Volodymyr, Call Sign “Shved,” participated in combat operations in Luhansk from 2014 to 2017 as part of a sabotage and reconnaissance group. After his service, he moved to Sweden and was one month away from obtaining citizenship. However, he left everything behind when russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine began, returning to defend his country. From 2022 to 2024, he served in “Kraken,” a Ukrainian military unit formed in response to the russian invasion, operating in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk directions under the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.

Oleh (“Turyst”) defended Ukraine in the 80th Air Assault Brigade from 2014 to 2016.

Ruslan Popov, a Ukrainian veteran and USUA volunteer, ran his 4th full MCM (42K) marathon this year! Ruslan is a Junior Sergeant in the Airborne Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the commander of a grenadier unit. During the initial stage of the russian-Ukrainian war in 2014-2015, he fought in Sector A, including Krymske, Triokhizbenka, Shchastia, Stanytsia Luhanska, Pobieda, and other settlements in Luhansk Oblast.

US Ukrainian Activists also welcomed other Ukrainian teams of veterans and active military personnel, including Veterans Dozen/V10/Ветеранська Десятка, which we have supported since their first participation in the MCM in 2016, as well as veterans from Revived Soldiers Ukraine, who joined the MCM for the first time this year!

Slava Ukraini! Glory to Ukraine!
